This weekend I went to the beach with my herd of elephants (nope I’m not talking about big butts and oversized ears). It was just what my soul needed. I was in need of some serious rejuvenation! We laughed, we cried...but all good tears, tears of joy and of the spirit. My takeaways from this weekend:

  • The people you spend the most time with shape who you are. They determine what conversations dominate your attention. They affect which attitudes and behaviors you are regularly exposed. Eventually you start to think like they think and behave like they behave....so surround yourself with good people that lift you up! Jim Rohn: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

  • Don’t judge! You have no idea what anyone's back story is…

  • Something I learned from Debbie on our way home that I need to hang on to is: school is my Goliath. Just as David had to be resourceful because killing Goliath wasn’t going to happen the conventional way, he had to take his past experiences and be resourceful to conquer this one. A’s don’t magically show up on my report cards, they are worked hard for! I need to just need to remember,  be resourceful, trust in the Lord and stay positive...

Why is there a picture of a toilet in your journal?!? Well yesterday morning Mike clogged this thing good! We tried every trick in the book and no luck! Bought a drain snake, nope! Let it sit overnight & tried all the tricks again, no luck!! I thought I had thought of everything, but realized I hadn’t prayed, so I prayed and 3 mins later I heard a magical sound... It unclogged and all on its own, I didn’t even have to touch it another time...And then I cried. I cried because the Lord heard my prayer.   Why do bad things happen?  Throughout our mortal sojourn here on Earth we experience a plethora of experiences. Unfortunately a lot of those experiences aren't very positive in the sense that we go through hard times of sorrow, grief, sadness, depression, and many other negative experiences. Although these trials are not fun, or exactly what we want they are in fact inevitable. No one person can go through life without experiencing hard times, and some may ask "How could God let this happen to me?", or maybe "Why does God let bad things happen to good people?" and these are very valid questions, and I for one have asked them before. Being on a mission seeing the highs and lows of peoples lives has got me pondering those questions more and more. I occasionally lay awake at night getting bombarded with answers, thoughts, scriptures, and ideas concerning these questions. Sacrament Talk March 2021: Armor of God

When Kaylee and Jake were little we had a family home evening lesson with this little felt guy, soft fuzzy felt. And we also had these red fiery darts made of velcro. The kids would throw their fiery darts at our little felt man and they would stick to him. Soon it was like this poor little man was just being tortured by these fiery darts!  Well thankfully for this little guy we also had armor! We gave him his: Breastplate of righteousness His helmet of salvation  His sword of the spirit And his shield of faith so he could withstand these fiery darts!! Do we ever feel a little like this poor felt guy? Do we ever feel a little tattered and torn, picked on or tortured by the fiery darts of the advisory?  Well we too have the ability to put on this armor of god!  But how do we put on the whole armor of God so that we may, as Paul promises us in the New Testament, “be able to withstand in the evil day”?
